THE BEST OF KEITH JAMES - 50 years as an independent Musician
8pm Tickets £15
‘devotion, integrity, experience. All spinning as one’ Guardian
Keith James is probably one of the most active and well-loved musicians in the country.
His passionate solo performances have visited just about every Theatre and Arts Centre in
the UK as well as venues in Spain, Italy, Greece, France, Holland, Denmark and Norway. In
concert, Keith has always been a very unique and delicate performer, specialising in re-
interpreting the music of writers for whom he has always embraced a deep, life long, heart
felt belief: Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Cat Stevens – writing which has
both depth and a genuine sense of purpose.
These concerts, along with a 10 year sidestep during the ‘90s as a record producer, have
sustained Keith as an entirely independent musician since his initial Wine Bar circuit which
began in 1974.
Included in this concert will be many ‘stand out’ songs from his vast back catalogue of
concerts: Nick Drake’s Northern Sky, Leonard Cohen’s Suzanne, Joni Mitchell’s Big
Yellow Taxi, Cat Steven’s Moonshadow and Lorca’s El Mascaron, as well as many of
Keith’s own songs which have found their place on his list of original CD Albums across the
past decades.
This concert tour celebrates Keith’s 50 years in music and spans an entire year of 85
concerts all the way through to July 2025.

Hay Nawr presents live music from Seamus Fogarty, Alula Down, and Jason Kahn
7pm Tickets £7
Seamus Fogarty
Irish alt-folk alchemist Seamus Fogarty has released two albums on Domino Records - ‘A Bag Of Eyes’ at the end of 2020 and ‘The Curious Hand’, released in 2017. He released his debut full-length, ‘God Damn You Mountain’, on cult Scottish label Fence Records in 2012. His albums have been universally praised for their fresh approach to songwriting and unique fusion of traditional instrumentation and electronics.
Alula Down
Kate Gathercole & Mark Waters make music that is born of relationship, exploring connection with the land and with the magic and ordinariness of our human-being.
With eclectic musical roots, they make use of collage, improvisation and field recording. Their explorations of folk song and their own self written songs are underpinned with drone and textured soundscape. Recognising that many traditional / vernacular (‘folk’) songs illuminate dispossession and inequality, Alula Down explore these divisions between self and other, and treat the ecology of place as a point of communion, not as an uninvolved landscape.
Jason Kahn
Born 1960 in New York, Jason Kahn is a musician, artist and writer. He lives in Zürich. As an electronic musician, guitarist, vocalist and percussionist Kahn collaborates with many international musicians in the context of improvised music. He has also composed numerous electro acoustic pieces and graphical scores written for specific groups and musicians. His work can be heard on over two hundred solo, collaborative and compilation releases.
Kahn's installations and interventions have been shown in museums, galleries, art spaces and public sites internationally. These works focus on the idea of space: the conceptual and physical juncture points, its production and dissolution, and our relation to it as a political, social and environmental medium.

JOSIENNE CLARKE - Live
Book your Burgerme table to avoid disappointment: Call 01497821762 or email eat@globeathay.co.uk
8pm Earlybird Tickets £16 / £17 Standard
“Sings like a haunted angel” The Financial Times
“Utterly electric” Cerys Matthews
“Extraordinary” Mojo
“Indie-folk queen asserts her independence” Uncut
“Gently exquisite” The Observer
Indie-folk singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer Josienne Clarke is often said to draw on traditional British folk inspirations, but is a thoroughly modern, multifaceted artist who follows her own compass. Blessed with a voice of crystalline beauty and clarity that has been compared to Sandy Denny, her myriad talents translate effortlessly to the live space in performances that are all her own. She has extensive touring experience having been a Rough Trade-signed, Radio 2 Folk Award-winning artist –two opposing poles that neatly sum up her inability to be pigeonholed –and has also been hand-picked as main tour support for folk legend Richard Thompson. She’s shared a stage with Robert Plant and has written songs for an adaptation of The Snow Queen for the National Theatre. Her varied background and effortless musicality mean a cover of Radiohead is just as likely to appear on the setlist as Nick Drake, as on her recent “Now & Then” EP live–hence she’s been able to slot seamlessly into the bill of the Shrewsbury Folk Festival as easily as that of End of the Road.As well as being a guitarist and vocalist of alarmingly good quality, her unforgettably dark wit also acts as compelling counterpoint to her own twilit, low-key and intimate compositions when playing live. Clarke’s rare authenticity –really the main unifying thread running through her career –is something to admire: here is an artist singularly unafraid to express herself via her art and is naturally armed with all the verve and ability to do so –and bring the audience with her.

Charlie Dore - The Man Who Built Christmas Tour
Doors 7.30pm Earlybird tickets £16 / £18 Standard
Charlie Dore - The Man Who Built Christmas Tour
From the celebrated singer & songwriter of worldwide hits
Playing with the stellar multi-instrumentalist Julian Littman
Charlie Dore’s songs have been recorded by the good and the great including George Harrison, Tina Turner, Celine Dion, Martha Wainwright, Jimmy Nail and Ricky Ross, but her live shows reveal that she keeps the best songs for herself.
In a career of several decades, this multi-award-winner realised she had never written a Christmas song. Proving that there’s a first time for everything Charlie Dore presents her live show - The Man Who Built Christmas. Alongside her long-time collaborator Julian Littman of Steeleye Span the pair swap guitars, piano, harmonium, mandolin, ukulele and stories as they showcase these yuletide originals as well as favourites from the past nine albums and several songs never before heard live.
“My entire catalogue was a Christmas-free zone, which was fine by me. Except for one song, Santa and Edie, which I wrote for the Green Note’s Festive Show. This whet my appetite for approaching the whole Christmas thing from different angles, trying for unusual plots, like making miniature movies with the listener behind the camera.”
As one of the UK’s most respected songwriters her albums, described as ‘eclectic contemporary folk-americana with crunchy lyrics’ continue to win awards on both sides of the Atlantic, most recently Female Vocalist Of The Year (FATEA, 2020) and Best Lyrics (Like Animals, US Indie Acoustic, 2021). Charlie has also played major festivals including Glastonbury, Celtic Connections, Cropredy, Shrewsbury Folk and Ventnor and headlined some of the UK’s most prestigious venues including Kings Place and Liverpool Philharmonic.
Recent live sessions for Mark Radcliffe (BBC Radio 2) playing + co-hosting for Ricky Ross’/Another Country (BBC Radio Scotland) as well as an inclusion on Ken Bruce’s final BBC show prove Charlie’s relevance and ability to capture the imagination of an increasing audience. She’s also recently collaborated with Michelle Stodart of The Magic Numbers and rising folk star Katie Spencer.
“…earnest and witty, tender and cynical all at the same time… profound, moving and oddly haunting.” RnR Magazine
“Subtle songs that pack a punch… absolute gems of modern songwriting.” Mike Harding
“.. one of our most intelligent and erudite singer-songwriters.” Fatea Magazine
“ …her dark wit sculpts her lovely lyricism her gentle, unique voice is one to die for.” Folk Wales

Hay Shantymen
Hay Shantymen first came together in 2016 and are united by strong friendships, a love of singing, the sea and good beer - not necessarily in that order. They make a welcome return to the Globe for another early Christmas celebration.
Their roots might be on the banks of the River Wye but the Hay Shantymen travel across the country singing traditional shanties and other foot-stomping seafaring songs. Among their recent highlights are Hay Festival, Falmouth and Bristol and Port Isaac Shanty Festivals, and Latitude. Wherever they go, audiences are captivated by their powerful harmonies and infectious sense of fun.
If you have seen them live, you will be aware that they take their fundraising very seriously. To date they have raised nearly £15,000 for their chosen charity, the RNLI.
This promises to be lively evening and tickets will sell fast.

A Midwinter’s Night with JACKIE OATES & JOHN SPIERS
8pm Earlybird ticket £16 / £18 Standard
This Winter Solstice join multi award-winning contemporary folk artists Jackie Oates and John Spiers for a heart-warming festive concert, perfect for the Christmas season and the night of the winter solstice. Their brand new album, ‘A Midwinter’s Night’ will be released just in time for the tour and will be available to purchase on CD, alongside other seasonal merchandise and gifts. The duo perform traditional seasonal music including Christmas carols and tunes from England and beyond; audiences particularly appreciate Jackie and John’s music as a beautiful and joyful antidote to the materiality that can be a feature of this time of year.
‘Oates & Spiers left the gaudy, commercialised crass-ness at home … theirs is a Christmas for all’ Bristol 24/7
Jackie Oates is a mainstay of English traditional music and regarded as one of the country’s best loved folk performers. ‘There’s a sweetness and melancholy to her voice that is like no other, and for which there is no known formula with which to replicate it.’ (Songlines). John Spiers, known better in folk circles as Squeezy, is one of the top melodeon players in the UK and is well known for his long-standing duo partnership with Jon Boden in Spiers & Boden as well as his contribution to the massively popular Bellowhead.
